Everybody seems to be using the word "value" like it's some kind of filler word.
You can't scroll through X without hearing it.
“If you want to grow, then you need to provide value,” they say.
But regardless of its constant repetition, the real meaning behind "value" often gets lost in the noise.
What does it really mean to provide value?
The word is seemingly overused, and its significance diluted.
I'm sure you've seen tons of content on X claiming to be packed with value, but when you scratch the surface, it's just hot air.
All claim to deliver value.
But the perception of value differentiates.
How you define and deliver value could make or break your success.
Leave your followers better off than they were before they crossed paths with you.
Use the word "value" to make jaws drop.
Leave them thinking, "Wow, I didn't see that coming!"
But be careful not to mistake confidence for competence. You know those people who talk the entire time and are constantly patting themselves on the back, bragging about how amazing they are? I once had a colleague like that. It was always "me, me, me" with him.
Initially, he got a lot of attention. This is called the bubble: the more you talk, the more you are perceived as a leader who has competence. But eventually, there was not much substance in what he was saying, and he didn’t care much about the team.
Needless to say, his career didn't skyrocket.
Quite the opposite.
Your audience will associate you with the level of quality you provide.
If you offer low value overall, then your audience will eventually move away from you. If you provide high value, then they will look for you.
Here are the 3 fundamental pillars that set you apart in providing value:

1. Satisfaction
When you give someone something that truly meets their needs, desires, or expectations, it's like hitting the satisfaction jackpot.
It's about more than just ticking off boxes.
It's about really understanding what others are looking for and delivering in a way that resonates with them.
Imagine you're looking for an online platform to use for your newsletter.
You have certain features in mind: a good UX, simple to use, a budget you're trying to stick to, and other things.
Now, when you find that perfect match – the online platform that ticks all your boxes and maybe even throws in a couple of surprises – how does it make you feel?
You will subscribe.
That's the power of providing value.
It's about going beyond the basics, exceeding expectations, and solving problems efficiently.
When others feel like they're getting real value from you – whether it's through exceptional service, a great product, or reliable support – they're not just satisfied; they're impressed.
And that feeling is contagious.
When people are happy with what you offer, they're more likely to:
- Spread the word
- Keep coming back for more
- Share their positive experiences
Providing value isn't just about making others happy in the moment. It's about building lasting connections and leaving a positive impression that keeps them satisfied time and time again.
2. Building Trust
Trust is the cornerstone of any meaningful relationship, whether it's in business or personal life.
And providing value is like laying down a solid foundation for that trust to flourish.
Imagine this: You're talking to customer service every now and then because you need their help. You need someone who's reliable, competent, and committed to delivering results.
Now, when the customer service is consistently reliable, competent, delivers on their promises, offers products or services that genuinely benefit you, and shows genuine care for your needs, what happens?
You start to trust them, right?
That's the magic of providing value in building trust. It's not just about making promises; it's about keeping them.
When you consistently meet or exceed expectations, you demonstrate reliability and competence. And that's what builds trust – knowing that you can count on someone to deliver when it matters most.
But trust goes beyond just competence. It's also about sincerity and integrity.
When you prioritize the well-being of others over short-term gains, it shows that you genuinely care. You're not just in it for yourself; you're in it for the long run, committed to creating mutual success.
Your audience doesn't want to know what's in it for you. Your audience wants to know what's in it for them.
And as you continue to provide value, something remarkable happens: loyalty starts to bloom.
People begin to rely on you, not just for what you offer, but for the trust and confidence you inspire.
Now it’s not just about transactions anymore but about building enduring relationships based on trust, respect, and mutual benefit.
3. Competitive Edge
If you want to be heard on X, then you need to find a way to stand out from the crowd. And providing value is your ticket to doing just that.
You're not the only player in this game. There are others offering similar products or services wanting the same attention as you. So how do you rise above the noise?
By offering something unique, something that sets you apart – and that's where providing value comes in.
When you consistently deliver products or services that go above and beyond expectations, you create a distinctive value proposition that's hard to resist.
And that's what keeps them coming back for more, even when there are other options on the table.
You deliver in a transparent, honest, and ethical way, which impacts your reputation positively.
Rethink your own definition of value.
Don’t hold back on providing value.
I would love to hear from you: What does value mean to you?
